There are
many ways for professionals/alumnae/industry to get involved with Program
for Women in Science and Engineering. There are opportunities to get
involved with both our K-12 outreach and undergraduate programs. A few
of the more common methods of getting involved are listed below. If
you have other ideas on how we can partner together, just contact us!
- Present at the Road
Less Traveled Career Conferences for 6-12th grade girls
- Give presenations to students on topics such as resume writing, working a career fair, international
experiences, improving communication success, a day in the life of
“x”, etc. Contact Lora Leigh Chrystal, (515) 294-4607, toll free at 1-866-419-6768
or (e-mail) lchrysta@iastate.edu. if you would like to do a presentation
for undergraduate women in engineering and science.
- Sign-up for the PWSE Professional
Role Model database.
- A listing of potential
“volunteers” who are willing to talk with local schools,
community groups, student groups, etc. about being a female engineer/scientist.
(We have volunteers all across the state!) To get your name in
the database of potential volunteers, click here.
- Register to serve as mentor through the MentorNet on-line mentoring program. For information,
on being an electronic mentor, go to MentorNet.
- Attend PWSE events
- Whether it is the
summer intern poster session, a welcome picnic, or a guest lecturer,
faculty and staff members are welcome to get involved with students!
Check out news/events on our homepage.
- Provide tour/plant
trip opportunities for students. Contact Lora Leigh Chrystal if you
are interested in having women students visit your place of work.
- Provide financial support
for PWSE programming efforts (either individually, through corporate
matching grants, and/or through your corporation). The opportunities
brochure shares information about our current needs. Contact either
