How to Get Involved With PWSE
There are many ways for faculty and staff at ISU to get involved with Program for Women in Science and Engineering, as well as many opportunities to get involved with both our K-12 outreach and undergraduate programs. A few of the more common methods of getting involved are listed below. If you have other ideas on how we can partner together, just contact us!
  • Presenting at the Road Less Traveled Career Conferences for 6-12th grade girls
  • Serving as a mentor for the PWSE Summer Intern program
    • Mentor either a high school senior or undergraduate student in a summer research experience. For more information about being an mentor for a summer intern, check out the mentor frequently asked question page.
  • Attending a “Dinner with the Prof” event with students living on WiSE residence floors
    • Enjoy an evening with a small group of female undergraduate students – as they get a chance to meet faculty/staff in an informal setting. For more information, contact Lora Leigh Chrystal, PWSE On-Campus Coordinator.
  • Advising/supporting student participation in the course-clustered WiSE learning team
    • During campus visits and orientation, encourage students to consider WISE learning communities and assist students in determining which team is best for them academically. For more information contact, Lora Leigh Chrystal.
  • Attending PWSE events
    • Whether it is the summer intern poster session, a welcome picnic, or a guest lecturer, faculty and staff members are welcome to get involved with students! Check out news/events on our homepage.
  • Partnering with PWSE on grants
    • If there are opportunities for PWSE to partner with you on research grants, just let us know. PWSE frequently partners and writes letters of support for grants that have components involving women students in science/engineering. For information about partnering on grants, contact Karen Zunkel, PWSE Director.
