Charles T. Wright, Jr. Scholarship

This scholarship was established in the memory of Charles T. Wright, Jr., a computer engineering faculty member who was an active mentor to students, including regularly serving as a PWSE Summer Intern mentor. The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage women to enter and remain in a science or engineering field. Each scholarship is in the amount of $1000.Students must be admitted to Iowa State University to be eligible.

The scholarship is awarded to female students majoring in mathematics, physical or computer sciences, or engineering. It is awarded in the spring for a student's upcoming sophomore or junior year. This scholarship is awarded for an academic year.

Current undergraduate students or transfer students may apply for this scholarship.

The selection committee shall give special consideration to students who have challenging personal circumstances, including but not limited to:

  • being raised in a single-parent home
  • currently raising children.
  • being the first child of the family or extended family to attend college
  • deemed to have significant potential but needs some encouragement to pursue science or engineering as a career and to become more involved in classes and research with fellow students and faculty (e.g,. a student who may be considered shy and will benefit from the recognition of this award).
  • having to work one or more jobs while attending ISU and/or having to take a loan out in order to pay for all or a significant portion of their tuition, fees, books, living expenses and other associated costs of attending ISU.
