New for 2008: The PWSE First-year Scholars Program is available to first-year women majoring in a science or engineering field at Iowa State University . Each scholarship is in the amount of $1000 to be applied to tuition for the first year of study and is not renewable. To be eligible for these scholarships, students must be in the top 5% of their graduating class or have an ACT composite of 30 or above. Students applying for these scholarships must complete this application that will be used by the Program for Women in Science and Engineering Scholarship Committee to award these scholarships. Students must be admitted to Iowa State University to be eligible. The PWSE First-year Scholars Program will work to connect undergraduate women in STEM majors with each other and professional women as well as provide a leadership experience. PWSE First-year Scholars will create a team of women in STEM fields who will
- Meet as a group (monthly) for professional development and social programs
- Develop and execute a group service learning project
Awards are available to women entering Iowa State University in their first year and majoring in the sciences (agriculture, biological, mathematical, physical, computer), mathematics, or engineering. Selected scholars will receive a $1000 scholarship for the 2008-09 academic year for their participation in the program. Multiple scholarships are awarded

Scholarships awarded on an annual basis to first-year students include the PWSE First-year Scholars Program and the Sylvia Stoesser Memorial Scholarships.
The application deadline for these scholarships is February 1st each year.
