WiSE Learning Teams

As a part of the WiSE learning community you will be assigned to a team led by a peer mentor. Teams are assigned according to where you live and what courses you are taking. As a part of a WiSE learning team you will:

    • Meet other women in science and engineering programs at ISU
    • Ease your transition into the university
    • Make friends that will last a lifetime
    • Take courses with the women you live with.
    • Take part in social and academic programs as a part of a team
    • Meet with your team weekly during the fall semester for an academic or social program and twice a month in the spring
    • Meet with your peer mentor individually during the fall semester (meetings are optional in the spring)
    • Have access to free tutoring for one course your first year
    • Built-in study partners right on your floor

Not only can you live together, but first-year students living on WiSE floors may take two science or math courses together with students who live on their residence - hall floor. A variety of courses are offered: Chemistry, Calculus, Biology, and Physics. We work with academic advisors to get students on the right team.

Based on your application information and major, we will begin working with you and your advisors to determine options for learning team placement. For students that are eligible for more than one course (Calculus/Chemistry, Biology/Math or Biology/Chemistry), the WiSE office may contact you by telephone in April to determine your interest in participating on a WiSE Learning Team. During June Orientation advisors will help students register for learning team specific courses. Once you have been registered for your courses and the Department of Residence has informed you of your housing placement, then you will begin to receive information from our office and your peer mentor about your first WiSE learning team meetings.
