Summer Research Internships
The Program for Women in Science and Engineering (PWSE) was a leader in providing opportunities for undergraduate women to participate in summer research. For 23 years, PWSE offered its own Summer Intern program. The Summer Intern Program, funded jointly by individual researchers, colleges, and PWSE externally raised funds, provided research opportunities to 1056 students over its history. Over the past couple of decades, the number of funded research opportunities for undergraduates has grown dramatically across the country, many of the programs funded by the National Science Foundation and other government agencies. With the current fiscal and staffing situation within PWSE, and upon the recommendation of the PWSE Advisory Board, PWSE is discontinuing its Summer Intern Program. PWSE staff members will work individually with faculty members who have included partnering with the PWSE Summer Intern program as a part of their externally-funded grants.
