Summer Research Internships
Summer 2010 Internship Dates: June 1 - July 23, 2010
Applications are due by February 1, 2010
The summer 2010 deadline has passed and we are no longer accepting applications. Information regarding the summer 2011 program will be posted in September 2010.
The Program for Women in Science and Engineering is please to offer summer research internships for undergraduate women from colleges and universities across the United States.
This eight-week internship is open to students attending college who are interested in careers in science and engineering. The internships are open to students after completion of their freshman year of college.
Note: International students are eligible for internships providing they have a current F1 visa. Interns must have a F1 visa to be paid for working in the United States.
The PWSE Summer Intern Program allows students to work on a variety of projects and gain hands-on research experience under the supervision of ISU faculty and staff. In addition, they attend weekly seminars, write research reports and summarize their research in poster presentations. During summer 2009, 38 undergraduate students participated in the intern program. Under the direction of their mentors, interns worked for eight weeks and were paid a stipend of $3,500. Funding for the stipends comes primarily from private donations, ISU colleges and other administrative units, and from research grants. The total number of students that have participated in the program now totals 980 students.
As an intern, you will:
- receive a stipend of $3,500
- be responsible for your own transportation, meals and housing. Information regarding optional housing in university apartments will be sent after selection
- attend weekly required seminars
- prepare and submit a research report
- prepare a poster summarizing your research project and present it on campus at the end of the eight-week session
- work 40 hours per week on the job. (We strongly discourage taking summer session classes while working as a PWSE intern. If you feel you must take a summer course while you are an intern, you must receive prior permission from the director of the program)
Application Deadline for interns is February 1, 2010 and we are currently accepting applications. If you would like to have an update on your file please email pwse@iastate.edu or telephone 515.294.0966
